I have this friend , I love her dearly
her name is turtle but it used to be susie
i wanna have you now just like an artichoke
i'll cut you to the core and take out your heart, its the best part
i know this girl she is a mover and a shaker
she likes the awkward moments that greet her in the morning and wake her

Car Door

I look down, but they cant see me
in the balcony
they hold hands across the table
on display like a hotel lobby
it seems their fingers placed just pleasantly
measured just half way
some curator smiles at his gallery
his 10 by 10 inch space
If a car door opens and I fly thru the window
what would I say
o I was distracted, I was thinking of
all the lying i've done in the bed that i've made
I can feel the bass
you can feel it too
how can you be so still
is that what his hand does to you?

Other People's Houses

I wake up on your futon
Roll out of bed, I mean, roll out of futon
You've already been at work for an hour
I look through your closets, take a shower
There's some yogurt in the fridge on the shelf
I won't finish it but I'll help myself
Where's the honey? Or maybe you are vegan
Is that ok with her or does it cause some friction?
Living in other people's houses
Sleeping on other people's couches
Finding the market on the way
From your house to the subway
Thanks so much but I can't stay
Have to catch the train today
We had a basement apartment
I kept most of our plants alive
I figured out the mystery:
Why all those bands sing bout the 405
I wake up, walk around
I should go explore downtown
I can read a map just fine but
I forgot how to tell time

Earth

Straws and napkins, cups-to-go
Plastic forks, Styrofoam
Bottled water, paper bags, shaving cream
Razors, Hummers, SUVs,
Gasoline pump receipts
Lip gloss, chapstick, lipstick, AC
Hand them in a box to me
Tell me this is the Earth I saved
Hand them in a box to me
And may it be too full to carry away
May it be too full to carry away

When I woke each week
to a patchwork of days
I was grateful for the change
Stained glass with no sun
Clothesline in the garden
No one thought that we were strange
When I left you portland
I knew I'd miss your colors
I knew I'd miss your mountains
When I left you, lover
Did you see the man
Called the airatarian
He can photosynthesize
Did you see the sign
Someone spent his savings
Warning it's the end of time
When I woke each week (I knew, I knew)
When I left you in the rain
I was grateful for the (I knew, I knew)
I was grateful for the change
Sometimes the rain just reflects the sun
